Lauren Ornelas

Food Justice

Lauren Ornelas founded Food Empowerment Project (F.E.P) which seeks to create a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one's food choices. F.E.P encourages healthy food choices that reflect a more compassionate society by spotlighting the abuse of animals on farms, the depletion of natural resources, unfair working conditions for produce workers, and the unavailability of healthy foods in low-income areas. A fierce animal activist for over 20 years, Lauren was the first woman of colour inducted into the Animal Rights Hall of Fame at the 2018 National Animal Rights Conference. Along with the rest of the F.E.P crew, she is known for illuminating such issues as child slavery in the chocolate industry, farm worker rights, and environmental racism.
